Sebastian thinks in systems about preferred futures and helps materialize them through service design processes. A Design, Foresight, and Systems methods expert with 10+ yrs. of experience in private sector, not-for-profit, & government. Recently led a Housing Permitting Modernization at British Columbia Public Service involving six different ministries. My next role ideally incorporates more-than-human centered design, speculative design, and participatory approaches aimed at wicked problems. Vancouver Island based or Remote.

Sebastian is an artist, strategic designer, futurist, system thinker, and facilitator of co-creative spaces and design implementation. He works in service of futures where our culture values relationships — relationships with each other, with natures’ systems and with more-than-human stakeholders. Sebastian is a trained industrial designer and product designer, and has extensive experience with human-centered-design and user experience research. Sebastian has been working with different organizations to develop cultures of care. He is one of the founders of Ayudog, a not-for-profit organization that helps street dogs and cats through affordable spaying and neutering campaigns and facilitating adoption in Valle de Bravo, Mexico. He is a newcomer to Canada, has painted murals on the streets of Toronto and looks forward to facilitating the co-design of better businesses.

Bio:
Sebastian is an Award winning designer that grew up in Mexico City. A city built on a lake that has long dried up. He first discovered his passion for design while on a trip to Europe, which included a visit to the London Museum of Design. Sebastian enrolled at SCAD in 2008 to pursue a degree in Industrial Design and a minor in Marine Design. His work has been featured at the SCAD Senior Show since 2010.

His senior thesis received a Bronze prize at IDEA '14 & a Red Dot Design Concept Award 2014

Philosophy:
I strive to achieve a balance of simplicity and innovation in my designs. I am an observer and a problem solver designing user centered products in an attempt to improve the human condition. I find inspiration in water because of its ability to fill any space, be it a glass of water or the Pacific Ocean. I may not be able to predict the future(s), but we can design them.
